The Art and Science of Obtaining Entitlements

Obtaining entitlements is one of the key value-creators in commercial real estate, especially in challenging markets with high barriers to entry.  Knowing how to navigate and manage the entitlement process is a competitive advantage and differentiator.  There are some "tricks of the trade" that can increase your chances of success.  There are the clearly identified legal and government published regulations and processes, but you have to know how to interpret them to your advantage and know how to communicate with the community and decision-makers.  The art is just as important as the science.

He has been the CEO of a public REIT, founder and managing member of two premiere commercial real estate companies including his current company Blake Griggs Properties and been a consultant for two major institutional commercial real estate companies.

He has been a guest teacher at the Stanford Graduate School Business and U.C. Berkeley MRED real estate programs. He is a past trustee of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and has served on numerous Urban Land Institute (ULI) and industry panels.
